Living in prison isn't easy. But life after prison can also be challenging.
Prison changes your life. It changes your family. It changes the world around you.
At Restart, we recognise that you might need help. We're here to support both the ex-offender and his family by pointing you to resources which will help you settle back into your community.
We're here to smooth the path back to a settled life.
A life you can look forward to.

Providing you and your family with the support you both need from the date of your release is exactly what Restart is all about.
We believe everyone is born with positive attributes, and during our transition through this world, we will all make mistakes before we discover our true purpose.
At Restart, we believe that when you take a wrong turn you can find your way back onto the right path with support and guidance.
No matter where your journey may have taken you, we are here to tell you it’s never too late if you are willing to restart.
The Oakwood Community Hub is our 'Mission Control'. Our community hub operates as a focal point to foster joint working, partnerships, and community cohesion with family members of those in prison, local residents, businesses, organisations, community groups, faith groups and the prison service in order to support people in prison and on release.
Founder and director of Restart, Pauline Miller-Brown, enjoys the support of a combination of commercial partners, subject matter experts, volunteers, and residents within the criminal justice system.
Each supporter has recognised, and invested in, the possibilities within Pauline's vision and her passion for a holistic person-centered approach to resettlement.
To this end Restart was created and we believe our partnership approach makes our service provision unique.
Restart Enterprise exists to provide support to clients whilst in custody and during their transition back into the community. It is an holistic service, strategically planned in order to reduce recidivism and promote resettlement.
Restart will provide support services that will enable our clients to maintain & improve independence, gain living skills and better their social & mental wellbeing.
Restart believe it is of critical importance that we involve those within the criminal justice system as partners for the following reasons:
The journey began when Restart's director, Pauline Miller-Brown, was accepted as a student to the School for Social Entrepreneurs Midlands (SSE) funded by Lloyds Bank, The Big Lottery and Barrow Cadbury Trust.
The SSE was founded by Michael Young in 1997 in London. Today their network of schools benefit communities across the UK, Canada and India. They support social entrepreneurs; people who start, scale and sustain organisations to tackle social problems.
The SSE believes everyone has the capacity to be remarkable, they empower people to create change in their communities and improve the lives of others. Their values align with those of Restart.
The SSE programme provided the support and motivation to turn Pauline's passion into a social enterprise and a reality.
She was privileged to be accepted as a student on the programme. This proved to be a key motivator for her, a source of critical information and a great network community of like-minded people.
Pauline was assigned a Lloyds Bank mentor who soon became a valuable sounding board. A Lloyds Bank grant enabled her to start to built her vision of Restart.
Pauline is proud to be a Fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs.
"I truly believe that if I did not have the opportunity to be part of the SSE programme with all its resources and support for the past 12 months, I would have lost a lot of my motivation and drive.
The journey to birthing a social enterprise is difficult, but rewarding, and the programme has equipped me with the confidence and belief that I will succeed. Thank you SSE!”
